Oh hey there, long time no see!
I read an article recently about how the new luxury is being unavailable. It’s kinda true. In a world dominated by tablets and smart phones, being able to go not only an hour, but a day or more without “plugging in” is unbelievably freeing. You may have noticed my blogging frequency fell off the deep end over the last couple weeks. I’ve been spending more quality time with my boyfriend without my laptop (I *gasp* left it at home), baking pumpkin spice muffins with cream cheese frosting, cooking more elaborate meals, and just generally puttering. It can be so easy to fall into the trap of being sucked into the internet that you neglect to notice what is going on around you. Taking an occasional break serves as a much needed reset from time to time. I’m not gone, I’m just resting.
I was also sick, and then did a ton of work on my house (while I was also sick – not advisable).
Part of my baseboard order was delayed slightly, with a number of kerfuffles involved, which is in turn dragging out my renovation timeline somewhat. It sounds like the rest of the order is in now, so we should hopefully be able to get that finished this weekend. *fingers crossed*
I really do love fall. I also really need to be loving fall more without a pane of glass between it and myself. On a completely unrelated note, there are leaves all over my lawn….
Post-holiday grocery sales don’t just apply to junk food. I don’t know why I never considered this before. Large cans of pumpkin puree (I do like my pumpkin) that were $4.99 days before Thanksgiving were now on sale for $1.99. That’s a 60% mark down. You know how long canned pumpkin lasts? Years. Do you know when the next time I’ll be making pumpkin pie is? Likely 2 months from now around Christmas time, when the price of pumpkin puree will go back up to $4.99 again.
Pumpkin spice lattes don’t really taste like pumpkin. I suppose this is an obvious fact to most, but it took reading a knockoff recipe and not seeing a speck of pumpkin in there to realize it really is just the pie spices I’m tasting. Tasty yes, pumpkin spice yes, pumpkin no.
Planned purchases and shopping trips by and large are the way to go. That being said, sometimes unplanned purchases can be exactly what you need. Case in point, closet organization and storage:
I didn’t go out intending to purchase these containers. I was in Home Depot grabbing a closet shelf support when I saw these tubs in a bin on sale. $2.99 each, including the lid. I grabbed 4 and immediately started organizing my off season and specialty (sport specific) clothes into them. I’ve since grabbed a few more, and I’ll be organizing my sewing supplies and fabric as well.
Autumn really is my kind of season. I love the clothes, the colours in the trees, the crisp air, the bounty of season end produce, PUMPKIN!!, planning for Christmas, not having to cut my grass…
…but I could really do without the change of season acne. It’s seriously beginning to piss me off.
I’ve been trying out some skin care products from the French line Nuxe the last little while. I’ve hit pause on them while the season is wreaking havoc on my skin, but I plan on continuing once things settle out. I’ve been using their micellar cleansing water with rose, and their multipurpose dry oil (kinda pricy, bought it on sale). If it turns out that the products are what’s bothering my skin, I’ll still be using the oil on my hair after showering. I’ve never had a product give my hair that weightless silky shine the way it does.
I’m not in any way surprised that the price of fuel jumped 9 cents the moment the US government announced they had reached a deal. I’m kind of kicking myself for not fuelling up earlier
The advantage to asking people what they want for Christmas well in advance is that you can take advantage of sales while most people are still concerned about Halloween. I ordered one gift this morning because it went on sale and I just happened to be paying attention.
It pains me to say this, but I’m going to have to start scrutinizing my spending again. Money is flowing out faster than I feel it should be, namely in the food category. I know I’ve purchased a lot of other things that were necessary, but in my somewhat groggy state I can’t really remember what they are. I should be able to my pinpoint purchases easier than that.
I feel like I’m finishing up the last year of my twenties feeling young and accomplished. Then I look in the bathroom mirror and see flashes of white poking out at my roots. Suddenly I don’t feel so young anymore.
Note to self: buy box of hair dye.
It’s amazing how much a solid meal in the middle of the work day can improve my efficiency
It’s sad that I don’t do a good job of that often enough that I actually notice a difference
I’m loving the Duchess blend tea from Duchess Bakery right now. It’s basically Earl Grey tea with lavender. Perfect for fall.
What’s up in your neck of the woods? How are you enjoying the season?
