I have a tendency to hang things off door knobs in lieu of actually organizing them. This has three distinct downsides:
- It makes it harder to grab the door knob
- It makes it harder to close the door when things are swinging in the way
- It looks like crap. Let’s be honest here.
None of those issues have been enough to stop me from doing it though, because as much as I don’t like it in terms of organization, it’s a lesser evil than having them on the ground gathering dust in a corner. A lot of the bag organization I see featured in nicely organized closets involve structured purses that stand up reasonably well on their own. Not exactly reflective of my bags, which lean more toward the reusable shopping bag side of the spectrum.
After years of hanging my purses by their handles, I came to the realization that I really should just stop fighting it. Enter these babies:
Shower curtain hooks. I hung the narrow end typically meant for the curtain on my closet rod, and used the shower rod end for my purse handles:
As a bonus, I also had enough to get the longer necklaces I had been struggling to organize off my dresser (above), and my pot holders out of the cutlery drawer (below).
At $10 for a package of 12 I probably could have found some cheaper ones, but I’m happy with the result. They’re nice, sturdy stainless steel, so I shouldn’t have to worry about them breaking like a plastic set might.
Now that I’ve had my quick win, it’s time to get back to my task of the moment: Tile.
Or rather, de-tiling.
What quick organizing wins do you use at home? Does anyone have a good solution for belts?
